The Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Prof. Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu, is taking the University’s scholarship and research to the global stage as he participates in the International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS) in Beijing, China.
Prof. Iddrisu is attending the prestigious international scientific gathering from August 9 to 21, 2026, following an invitation from the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA), the institution organising the Congress in collaboration with the Beijing city authorities.
The ICBS is designed to strengthen and promote basic research in the sciences across the world, bringing together leading academics, researchers and scientists for intellectual exchange, knowledge sharing and collaboration.
The Congress features a rich programme of academic activities, including an award ceremony, plenary lectures, 45-minute scientific lectures and international scientific exchange, providing participants with opportunities to engage with emerging ideas and developments across various fields of basic science.
At the Congress, Prof. Iddrisu is expected to deliver a scholarly presentation exploring the foundational principles and applications of different forms of calculus that have emerged beyond the classical Newtonian framework.
His presentation will trace the evolution of calculus from its origins to contemporary generalisations, examining the motivations that have driven the development of non-classical approaches to mathematical analysis.
Particular attention will be given to the historical foundations, fundamental concepts, definitions, lemmas and key theorems underpinning major branches of modern calculus.
These include Classical (Newtonian) Calculus, Non-Newtonian Calculus, q-Calculus (Quantum Calculus), (p,q)-Calculus and Time-Scales Calculus.
The presentation will further examine the similarities, differences and interrelationships among these mathematical frameworks, with emphasis on their underlying mathematical structures and analytical tools.
Prof. Iddrisu will also highlight selected applications of the various forms of calculus to demonstrate their relevance in addressing contemporary mathematical and scientific problems.

His participation is particularly significant given the growing importance of interdisciplinary scientific research and international academic collaboration in advancing knowledge and developing solutions to complex global challenges.
Beyond the presentation itself, the Vice Chancellor’s participation provides an opportunity for UDS to deepen its engagement with the international scientific community.
