DR. ESTHER EKUA AMOAKO DIRECTOR - CENTER FOR GENDER AND CAREER MENTORSHIP
Introduction

The Centre for Gender and Career Mentorship (CGCAM) applies practices that ensure that both men and women’s concerns, aspirations, opportunities and capacities are taken into account in leadership, career progression, research, teaching and learning. The Centre develops activity-based programmes to promote awareness of gender issues, sensitise and advocate for equality and equity in the University community and beyond. The Centre also serves as a medium of comprehensive mentoring for staff and students in their professional/career development pathways.

The Centre has focus on four (4) priority areas:

  1. Co-creation of gender courses, capacity building and mentoring for staff and students, 
  2. knowledge management, communication and partnership, 
  3. gender balance and participation in leadership, 
  4. gender-responsive monitoring and reporting.


Vision
A Centre in the frontline to develop scholars and workers through mainstreaming gender policy, planning and implementation that have direct and indirect impact on the UDS and beyond.

Mission 
To create an enabling environment for gender inclusiveness through programmes professional/career development and mentoring for staff, students and partners that would harness institutional and cultural dynamics in teaching, learning, research and leadership.

Goal - To mainstream gender through capacity building and the provision of incentives for mentoring staff, students and partners.

Specific objectives

  1. To advance gender equity through the creation of academic programmes and provide professional/career support through volunteer mentoring.
  2. Provide career counselling, assessments, job search and networking strategies for students.
  3. To promote gender-responsive policies and harness the institutional, and cultural dynamics of the UDS.
  4. To create a sexual and gender-based violence free environment for all constituents in the UDS.
