The University for Development Studies (UDS) has taken another significant step in advancing healthcare delivery and practical training with the official opening of the UDS Dental Clinic on the Tamale Campus, effective Wednesday, 1st July, 2026.
The modern facility is now open to students, staff, and the general public, providing comprehensive oral healthcare services in a well-equipped clinical environment staffed by qualified dental professionals.
The establishment of the clinic reflects the University's commitment to improving access to quality healthcare while supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community service.
To mark the commencement of operations, the clinic will offer free dental screening to all visitors from 1st to 3rd July, 2026, providing members of the University community and the public with an opportunity to assess their oral health at no cost.
Speaking ahead of the official opening, the Dean of the School of Dentistry, Dr. Michael Yelibora, described the opening of the clinic as a major milestone for the School and the University.
"The opening of the UDS Dental Clinic represents an important milestone in our quest to provide accessible, high-quality oral healthcare while strengthening the clinical training of our students. We invite students, staff, and the general public to take advantage of our services and particularly the free dental screening during the first three days of operation. Early detection and preventive care remain the foundation of good oral health."
The clinic is equipped to provide a broad range of dental services, including consultations, dental screening, scaling and polishing, crowns and bridges, teeth whitening, restoration of decayed teeth, partial removable dentures, full dentures, and tooth extractions.
Beyond delivering quality dental care, the facility will serve as an important clinical training centre for students of the School of Dentistry, enabling them to acquire hands-on experience under professional supervision while contributing meaningfully to improved oral healthcare delivery in Northern Ghana and beyond.
The University encourages all members of the UDS community and the general public to visit the clinic for routine dental check-ups, preventive care, diagnosis, treatment, and other oral health services.
Located on the Tamale Campus, the UDS Dental Clinic stands ready to provide professional, patient-centred dental care in line with the University's motto, "Knowledge for Service."
