The University for Developemt Studies seeks individuals of proven integrity, academic distinction, and strong leadership capacity who are committed to upholding the values and mission of UDS to apply for the following Positions.

1. DEANS FOR SCHOOLS AND FACULTIES

The University for Development Studies, Tamale, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment of Deans for the following Schools and Faculties:

  1. School of Public Health
  2. Faculty of Sustainable Development Studies
  3. Faculty of Education
  4. Faculty of Natural Resource and Environment  
  5. Faculty of Communication and Media Studies
  6. Faculty of Industrial Art and Technology

A. The Position

The Dean is the academic and administrative head of the School/ Faculty, and shall report to the Vice Chancellor in the discharge of his/her duties. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership to advance academic quality, research productivity, clinical training, and community impact in alignment with the University’s strategic priorities.

B. Qualifications And Experience

The Applicant must:

  1. Hold a PhD in a relevant field obtained from a recognized/ Institution.
  2. Be of professorial status obtained from a recognized University or analogous institution
  3. Have substantial post-qualification experience spanning teaching, research, and professional practice within a recognised University.
  4. Have demonstrated leadership experience in a senior Academic and Administrative role in the relevant field/ background.
  5. Have proven expertise in resource mobilisation, financial management, grant acquisition, and partnership development.
  6. Have strong evidence of stakeholder engagement with regulatory bodies, professional associations, government agencies, and international partners
  7. Be eligible to serve a full term of three (3) years before attaining the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.

C. Key Responsibilities

  1. Represent the Vice Chancellor as the Academic and Administrative Head of the School/Faculty.
  2. Provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure excellence in teaching, research, professional practice, and community engagement.
  3. Oversee the development, accreditation, implementation, and periodic review of academic programmes in compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
  4. Promote a vibrant research culture, including grant acquisition, interdisciplinary collaboration, and international partnerships.
  5. Lead staff development initiatives through mentorship, succession planning, and robust performance management systems.
  6. Ensure sound financial stewardship and support sustainable resource mobilisation for the School/ Faculty.
  7. Strengthen partnerships with regulatory bodies, healthcare Institutions, government agencies, professional associations, and global collaborators.
  8. Ensure strict adherence to University Statutes, policies, ethical standards, and quality assurance frameworks.

D. Terms of Appointment
The appointment shall be for an initial three (3) year term and may be renewed for one additional consecutive term only.

A. Duties
The Vice shall assist the Dean in the discharge of his/her duties

B. Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must:

  1. Hold a PhD in a relevant field obtained from a recognised Institution.
  2. Be of the rank of at least Senior Lecturer obtained from a recognised university or analogous Institution. A professorial rank would be an advantage
  3. Have substantial post-qualification experience spanning teaching, research, and professional practice within a recognised University.
  4. Possess demonstrated leadership experience in a senior Academic and Administrative role in the relevant field/ background.
  5. Have proven expertise in resource mobilisation, financial management, grant acquisition, and partnership development.
  6. Possess  strong evidence of stakeholder engagement with regulatory bodies, professional associations, government agencies, and international partners
  7. Be eligible to serve a full three (3) year term before attaining the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.

3. DIRECTOR, DIRECTORATE OF HUMAN RESOURCE AND ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The University for Development Studies, Tamale, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment as Director for the Directorate of Human Resource and Organisational Development

A. The Position

The Director shall serve as the administrative head of the Directorate and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor through the Registrar for the effective leadership, management, and strategic direction of the Human Resource and Organisational Development in the University.

The successful candidate shall provide visionary and results-driven leadership in the development and implementation of human resource policies, systems, and practices to enhance organisational effectiveness, staff performance, and institutional growth, in alignment with the University’s strategic objectives.

B. Qualifications and Experience

The Applicant must 

  1. Hold at least a Master’s degree in a relevant area and be a member of a recongnised and relevant professional body. 
  2. Be of the rank of at least  Deputy Registrar obtained  from a recognised university or analogous Institution.
  3. Be eligible to serve a full term of four (4) years before attaining the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.
  4. Possess substantial post-qualification experience spanning Administrative and professional practice within a recognised University.
  5. Possess demonstrated leadership experience in a senior administrative role in the relevant field/ background.
  6. Have strong evidence of stakeholder engagement with regulatory bodies, professional associations, government agencies, and international partners.

C. Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide strategic leadership for the planning, development, and management of the University’s human resources in alignment with institutional priorities. 
  2. Serve as the administrative head of the Directorate and ensure efficient and effective delivery of human resource and organisational development functions. 
  3. Oversee the development, implementation, and periodic review of human resource policies, systems, and programmes in compliance with University Statutes and applicable regulations. 
  4. Coordinate recruitment, appointments, confirmations, promotions, and separations within the University. 
  5. Maintain and manage staff records and human resource information systems to support decision-making and institutional reporting. 
  6. Lead performance management and staff development initiatives, including appraisal systems, training, mentorship, and succession planning. 
  7. Manage employee and industrial relations, including union engagement, collective bargaining, and the resolution of grievances and disciplinary matters. 
  8. Oversee the administration of compensation, benefits, pensions, conditions of service, and staff welfare. 
  9. Lead organisational development initiatives, including change management, organisational restructuring, and the promotion of a positive institutional culture. 
  10. Advise Management and relevant statutory bodies on human resource matters, ensure compliance with policies and ethical standards, and build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.

D. Terms of Appointment

The appointment shall be for an initial term of  four (4) years  and may be renewed for another term of four (4) years only or part thereof, if the statutory retirement age may not permit full 4-year second term

4. DIRECTOR, DIRECTORATE OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The University for Development Studies, Tamale, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment as Director for Directorate of Academic and Students Affairs.

A. The Position

The Director shall serve as the academic and administrative head of the Directorate of Academic and Students Affairs and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor through the Registrar for the effective leadership, management, and strategic direction of academic administration and student services within the University.

The successful candidate shall provide visionary and results-driven leadership in the development and implementation of policies, systems, and practices to enhance academic administration, student experience, and institutional effectiveness, in alignment with the University’s strategic objectives. 

The Director shall also be responsible for the oversight and management of student records and academic information systems, ensuring accuracy, integrity, security, and accessibility of student data to support decision-making and regulatory compliance.

B. Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must:

  1. Hold at least a Master’s degree in a relevant field and be a member of a recongnised and relevant professional body. 
  2. Be of the rank of at least Deputy Registrar obtained from a recognised university or analogous Institution.
  3. Be eligible to serve a full term of four (4) years before attaining the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.
  4. Possess substantial post-qualification experience spanning Administrative and professional practice within a recognised University.
  5. Possess demonstrated leadership experience in a senior administrative role in the relevant field/ background.
  6. Have strong evidence of stakeholder engagement with regulatory bodies, professional associations, government agencies, and international partners
  7. Possess strong knowledge and practical experience in student records management and academic information systems, with the ability to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  8. Have proven understanding of tertiary education policies, quality assurance processes, and regulatory frameworks, including accreditation and academic programme administration.

C. Key Responsibilities

The Director of Academic Affairs will:

  1. Prepare  and issue  academic documents such as deferment and resumption letters, attestation letters to confirm students' academic status, introductory and confirmation letters, and English proficiency to certify language competence 
  2. Address verification requests from various entities, including employers, investigative agencies, and academic institutions particularly transcripts and certificates, originating from both the University for Development Studies (UDS) and its affiliated institutions 
  3. Keep records of students safe 
  4. Ensure the printing and issuance of certificates and transcripts for graduates from both the University for Development Studies (UDS) and its affiliated institutions 
  5. Ensure that decisions on examination malpractices are communicated to the students concerned. 
  6. Coordinate and facilitate all the processes leading to the admission of students including programme advertisements for the admission process, generation and release of E-vouchers for sale to both undergraduate and postgraduate applicants for online application, do admissions by adhering to established policies and in accordance with the decisions of the Academic Board and the Admissions Committee. 
  7. Facilitate the processing of applications for affiliation to UDS 
  8. Prepare an annual draft academic calendar for submission to the Academic Board or Executive Committee for approval. 
  9. Offer comprehensive clerical and administrative support to various boards and committees, including the Academic Board, Executive Committee, Academic Programmes Committee, Admissions Committee, Library Committee This support includes document preparation, logistics coordination, and meeting scheduling.

D. Terms of Appointment

The appointment shall be for an initial term of four years (4) and may be renewed for another term of fours (4) only or part thereof, if the statutory retirement age may not permit full 4-year second term
