UDS School of Economics Introduces Practical Quantitative Research and Data Analysis Short Courses

The School of Economics at the University for Development Studies (UDS) has introduced a set of short professional courses aimed at strengthening quantitative research and data analysis skills among students, researchers, and practitioners. The initiative, which has received formal approval from University Management, is expected to enhance capacity in research, policy formulation, and business analytics.

The flagship programme, titled Practical Quantitative Research and Data Analysis Training, is designed as an intensive, hands-on masterclass that blends theory with practical application. It targets individuals seeking to deepen their expertise in quantitative methods and data-driven decision-making.

According to the School, the introduction of the short courses reflects UDS’ commitment to bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, particularly in areas critical to national development such as research, monitoring and evaluation, and policy analysis.

Participants in the programme will receive training in key areas including quantitative research methodology, data management and analysis, and impact evaluation. The sessions will be delivered using widely used analytical tools and software such as Stata, R, and KoboToolbox, ensuring that participants acquire practical, industry-relevant skills.

The programme is open to a broad range of applicants, including postgraduate students, early-career researchers and research assistants, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) officers, policy analysts, development practitioners, and professionals seeking to strengthen their quantitative and analytical competencies.

Beyond the acquisition of technical skills, participants stand to gain significant professional benefits. These include enhanced capacity to design and conduct rigorous research, improved data analysis and interpretation skills, and the ability to apply evidence-based approaches in policy and business environments. Participants will also receive certificates upon completion, adding value to their academic and professional portfolios.

The training will run over four weekends per course, from May 23 to August 9, 2026, with sessions scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The venue will be the UDS Tamale Campus. Participants will also be provided with lunch and snacks throughout the training period.

The School of Economics has encouraged interested applicants to take advantage of the opportunity, describing the programme as timely and relevant in an era where data-driven decision-making is increasingly essential across sectors.

Registration for the courses is currently open. Interested individuals are required to complete the application process online or via the designated registration platforms provided by the School.

The initiative marks another significant step by UDS in expanding its academic and professional development offerings, while reinforcing its role as a leading institution in research, innovation, and capacity building in Ghana and beyond.
