Background

Ms. Valentina Aisha Sulleyman is a Lecturer in the Department of Animal Science. She specialized in Animal Breeding and Genetics and has over 10 years of research experience in guinea fowl production and sheep breeding. She is the Supervisor for the Sheep and Goat Unit of the department. She handles introductory courses in Animal Science and Animal Breeding at the undergraduate level at University for Development Studies. She has participated in research into seasonal laying of guinea fowls and improvement of indigenous sheep species through breeding programs. Ms. Sulleyman’s current research interests are characterization of the indigenous farm animal species in Northern Ghana and the effects of pre-natal factors (environment, embryology, neuroendocrinology and gene expressions) on post-natal survivability and behaviours of guinea fowls. She is currently collaborating with the University of St Andrews, Scotland to investigate causes of juvenile mortality in guinea fowl.
