Background
Dr. Abdul-Fatawu Shaibu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agribusiness, Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Sciences at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale, Ghana. He holds a PhD and MPhil in Agribusiness from the University of Ghana and a BA in Economics and Management from the same institution.
Dr. Shaibu's research focuses on agribusiness development, climate-smart agriculture, agricultural policy, climate information services, rural livelihoods, agricultural markets, and digital technologies in agriculture. His doctoral research examined the use of climate information and the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices among maize-producing households in Northern Ghana. He has published extensively in reputable international journals on topics including climate-smart agriculture, agricultural markets, agricultural aid, rural communication, and digital transformation in rural economies.
Before joining academia full-time, Dr. Shaibu accumulated over two decades of experience in education, serving as a teacher, examiner, and instructor. He has participated in several national and international research projects and currently serves as a Research Fellow at the Center for Agricultural Productivity and Policy Studies (CAPPS), UDS.
At UDS, he serves as the Departmental Examination Officer and Seminar Coordinator for the Department of Agribusiness. He is actively involved in student mentorship, community engagement, and policy-oriented research aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural development and improving rural livelihoods in Ghana and beyond.
His current research interests include climate-smart agriculture, agricultural productivity, agribusiness management, food systems transformation, agricultural value chains, rural development, and the application of digital technologies in agriculture.
