Background

Alhassan Mohammed (PhD) is a Lecturer with the Department of Animal Science and served as Supervisor of the Poultry Unit. He has also served as Departmental Examinations Officer for the Department of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Science and currently Quality Assurance Officer of ANS Department. He has about 9 years of professional experience with the University for Development Studies. He has published over 30 articles in a peer reviewed journals and has attended local and international conferences involving over 60 peer reviewed conference articles. He provided teaching in the areas of Monogastric Nutrition, Feed Evaluation, Advanced Animal production, Growth and Development of Farm Animals, Poultry Production and Animal Health and Diseases at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He undertakes research in areas of nutritional studies, feed additives, enzyme/feed interaction and gut health improvement. Dr. Alhassan has conducted extensive research in nutritional evaluation of non-conventional feedstuffs (false yam seeds and tubers), enzyme technology as well as guinea fowl improvement trials. His current research interests lay in the areas of “improving nutrient digestibility and metabolizability of a wide range of non-conventional feedstuffs. He is a member of several professional associations including Ghana Society of Animal Production (GSAP), Ghana Science Association (GSA), Ghana Animal Science Association (GASA), South Africa Society of Animal Science (SASAS) and University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG). He has also been a member of international collaborative research with Urban Foodplus, Food Security and Environmental Facility Project (FSEF) and Africa Research in Sustainable Innovations for the Next Generation (Africa RISING). He also won a grant from Weinco for the purpose of research into improving brooding characteristics of local guinea fowls.
