Dr. Bernard Edem Dzramedo is a senior lecturer at the department of Creative Design and Technology. He is the Foundation Dean for the Faculty of Industrial Art and Technology (FIAT) with expertise in Textile and Fashion Design. Bernard has 13 years working experience in UDS (20211-2024) and two years working experience with Bolgatanga Polytechnic (2009-2011) before moving to UDS. In UDS, he held various administrative positions at the department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) and few positions at the faculty of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Sciences (FoAFCS). He was the departmental exam officer (2012-2014) and head of department in FCS between 2017-2021. At the faculty level, he was a long-term diploma coordinator for the faculty (FoFCS) between 2013 to 2021 and a TTPFF district coordinator for two terms. He became the departmental head for the Creative Design and Technology programme in 2021 before being appointed later as the foundation Dean for Faculty of Industrial Art and Technology in January, 2022.
He had his diploma in Art from Ghanatta College of Art and Design in 1996, worked with some private advertising agencies between 1997 and 2000. He had his first-degree certificate in Textile Design, then Mtech in Fashion and Textile and PhD in African Art and Culture with special interest in African Clothes and textiles, all between 2004 and 2011. Other personal educational developments relate to knowledge acquisition in graphic design courses, digital and affiliate marketing relating to textile and fashion domain. Bernard’s research interests are in the areas of African historical clothes, experimenting with natural dyes extracts and Fashion and textile Designs and illustrations, Mix-media Art in Textile and Fashion and especially Textile and Fashion waste innovations for sustainable environment. He has over 15 publications in peer reviewed journals and some conferences and workshops experiences as well.
Bernard is leading the FIAT faculty in the production of textile and fashion items as a form of income generation activities and also help in the development and capacity building of staff and students. Production areas covers customized curtains, lab coats, academic gowns and clothes in general for individuals and institutions. Soon, the faculty will commence income generation activities in graphic design areas, jewellery and metalwork productions as well. Bernard’s passion is in skill acquisition and mentoring the youth in that direction for self-sufficiency and he is open for any form of collaboration in skill-driven art as an individual or at the faculty level.
