Dr. Abdulai  Tanko

Background

Dr. Tanko Abdulai is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Disease Control at the School of Public Health of the University for Development Studies. Dr. Abdulai holds a Doctor of Science (DSc) degree in Epidemiology and Health Statistics from Zhengzhou University, China; a Master of Science degree in Telemedicine and eHealth from UiT—The Arctic University of Norway; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana.

His research focuses on NCD epidemiology with special focus on Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) and mental health of the youth. He is also deeply committed to the application and evaluation of Health Information Systems, including mHealth and Telemedicine, to improve health outcomes in resource-limited settings. His goal is to build health systems and produce scientific evidence that can be used for public health policy and practice in Ghana and elsewhere.

He has been a Supervisor for the Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 (PMA2020) project in Ghana (2013–2018). Dr. Abdulai dedicates himself to educating and mentoring future public health specialists at UDS. He welcomes any collaboration in research related to NCD epidemiology (CVDs, Mental Health and Suicide studies), digital health, and health system strengthening.
