University for Development Studies Showcases Student Innovation at Entrepreneurial Exhibition

The Faculty of Education at the University for Development Studies (UDS) recently demonstrated its dedication to fostering talent, promoting innovation, and encouraging entrepreneurship through an exhibition of student-created products on campus. The event, which showed the entrepreneurial and creative abilities of final-year students, garnered significant support from the university community, with faculty members and students eagerly purchasing the displayed items.

Held at the forecourt of the faculty block, the exhibition featured an array of branded and customized textiles, clothing, bracelets, local foods, spices, and more. This event is a key component of the Junior High School (JHS) pedagogy course for education students, particularly those specializing in Home Economics. As part of their coursework, these students are expected to impart practical skills, such as those showcased, to their future students.

Miss Amenya Anastasia and Miss Bansah Gifty (both lecturers), who oversee the course, explained that the exhibition is an integral part of the enterprise management and product development curriculum. The course is designed to enable students to utilize local resources to create marketable products. According to the lecturers, the aim is for graduates not only to excel as educators but also to possess the skills necessary to generate additional income through entrepreneurship.

The exhibition was attended by notable faculty members including Faculty Officer Mr. Yakubu Rashid, Examination Officer Mr. Abu Adam, Professional Development Officer Mr. Kwaku Kissiedu, and Head of Business Education Dr. Mohammed Issah. Their presence emphasized the faculty’s commitment to supporting student initiatives and integrating practical entrepreneurial training into the academic framework.

Over the years, the University for Development Studies has distinguished itself in nurturing entrepreneurs through its innovative model courses and dedicated Business Incubation Center. This center has consistently served as an essential incubation hub for student entrepreneurs, providing comprehensive support and guidance from the initial incubation stage all the way to the startup stage. The university’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurial talent is evident in the success stories of its graduates, many of whom have gone on to establish thriving enterprises that contribute to local economies.
