UDS Holds Deans, Directors, and Examination Officers Retreat at Mole Motel

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has successfully concluded its Deans, Directors, and Examination Officers Retreat at the Mole Motel from February 26 to 28, 2025. The event, which brought together representatives from almost all directorates and faculties, was held under the theme: “Performance Management – Assessing Our Achievements and Charting the Way Forward.”

In his welcome address, the Registrar of UDS, Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, recounted the history of the retreats, highlighting their significance in shaping the university’s policies and strategies. “This retreat has become an integral part of our institutional culture, providing a unique platform for reflection, assessment, and strategic planning,” he noted. He commended participants for their commitment and encouraged them to engage actively in the discussions.

Declaring the retreat officially open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, emphasized the importance of performance management in achieving the university’s mission. “As a university, we must continually assess our achievements and challenges to ensure we are on the right path. This retreat provides us with the opportunity to reflect on our strengths, acknowledge our shortcomings, and develop concrete strategies for improvement,” he stated. Prof. Al-hassan urged participants to be open-minded and solution-oriented, stressing that their contributions would be instrumental in shaping the future of UDS.

Participants were divided into three groups to deliberate on key sub-themes: “What Went Well,” “What Didn’t Go Well,” and “The Way Forward.” Each group engaged in extensive discussions, critically analyzing various aspects of the university’s performance. The deliberations culminated in PowerPoint presentations, where representatives outlined their findings and proposed recommendations.

To ensure accountability and follow-up, Mr. Ziblim Alhassan, the retreat’s rapporteur, meticulously documented all issues raised. His report will be submitted to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for further action.

Closing the retreat, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan delivered a motivational message, encouraging staff to remain committed to the university’s goals. “Our collective efforts determine the success of this institution. Let us work harder, collaborate more, and strive for excellence in all we do,” he urged. To end the session on a lively note, he introduced a light-hearted balloon game, sparking laughter and camaraderie among participants.

The retreat proved to be a productive and engaging exercise, reinforcing UDS’s commitment to continuous improvement and institutional growth.
