GUSA Games - UDS Through to Semifinals in Volleyball (Women) and Football (Men)

UDS thrashed the hosts of the 2022 GUSA games, KNUST in the women's volleyball quarter finals game on Tuesday in a sensational five-set match to grab a place in the semis. By this win, the UDS women’s volley ball team are now comfortably placed in the medal zone.

"It's a magic that our dreams came true," said one of players after the game. "We've had good times and bad times, but we've pushed on to achieve our goal. Our focus now on winning the next game” she said.

Meanwhile the UDS Men’s football team has also qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing GUSA games at KNUST. They beat the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)  2-0 in the first quarter final fixture on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

Many of the UDS first team players were not available for the match but coach Ibrahim Tanko’s boys lived up to expectation by scoring a goal in each half to qualify for the next stage of the competition.

The UDS lads started the game on the back foot as UHAS dominated open play and nearly grabbed the opener but the agile hands of goalkeeper Mohammed Ganiu kept them at bay.

Coach Tanko made a slight tactical switch in the first half as UDS went in search of the opener. Their incessant attacking game paid dividends in the 28th minute when Abdul Wadud connected superbly to a pass to hand the UDS boys the initiative. Mohammed Abayase sealed the win for the side when he poked home a 76th minute goal.

At the time of filing this report, the UDS women’s football team were comfortably leading in their Quarter Final games against the hosts, KNUST.
