Emerita Professor Tekyiwaa Manuh, a renowned academic and former Director of the Social Development Policy Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, has donated 235 books to the Centre for Gender and Career Mentorship at the University for Development Studies (UDS). The collection spans a wide array of topics, including academic freedom, globalization, African studies, gender activism, and feminism, reflecting Prof. Manuh’s lifelong dedication to advancing knowledge and advocating for gender equality.
Speaking during the presentation, Emerita Prof. Manuh expressed her passion for gender equity and the critical role universities play in fostering societal transformation. "As a development-focused university, UDS is uniquely positioned to champion gender equality and equity in Ghana and beyond. I have always believed that establishing a Gender Centre at UDS was long overdue, and I am pleased to contribute to its growth by donating these books,” she remarked.
The donation fulfills a promise Emerita Prof. Manuh made during the university's maiden sensitization program on gender equality, where she served as the guest speaker. She commended UDS for its efforts to institutionalize gender equality initiatives and expressed her hope that the resources would empower the Centre to make a meaningful impact.
Receiving the books on behalf of the Centre, Dr. Esther Ekua Amoako, Director of the Centre for Gender and Career Mentorship, expressed profound gratitude to Emerita Prof. Manuh for her generous contribution. "These books will significantly enrich the resources of the Centre and support research, teaching, and advocacy on gender equality and related fields. We are deeply honored by this gesture, which will inspire our work in advancing gender equity and academic excellence,” Dr. Esther Ekua Amoako said.
The donated books include seminal works on gender and women’s rights in Ghana, African migrations, and the dynamics of higher education on the continent. They will be housed at the Centre to serve students, researchers, and faculty.
