A delegation from the Hungarian Embassy in Ghana paid a visit to the Management of the University for Development Studies (UDS) on 17th May, 2021 as part of preparations towards the visit of the Hungarian Secretary of State, His Excellency Mr. Peter Szijjarto to Ghana.
According to the team leader of the delegation, Mr. Tamas Ary, the visit by the Secretary of State between 30th June to 4th July, 2021, will include a visit to UDS to donate equipment to the Faculty of Agriculture. This is in line with Hungary’s commitment to partner with UDS in supporting activities related to Ghana’s economic development.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of UDS, Prof. Felix K. Abagale, on his part, expressed gratitude to the delegation and the Hungary People for the ongoing collaboration, and the planned visit by His Excellency, Mr. Peter Sziijarto to the University. The Pro-Vice Chancellor reiterated the University’s capacity in areas of Crop Science, Animal Science, Agroforestry, Water and Sanitation, Irrigation, Agriculture Technology and Mechanization, Processing among others in delivering on partnership support activities between Hungary and Ghana.
Prof. Abagale further urged the delegation to consider extending its Scholarship Programme to UDS. He also indicated that the Nyankpala and Tamale campuses should be considered as beneficiaries of the wastewater project of the Hungarian Government so as to reduce its nuisance and environmental effects.
Mrs. Krisztina Karman of the Hungary Helps Programme revealed that, the Hungarian Government is making investment in Africa, and Ghana is benefiting from a 50 million Euro grant for the construction of wastewater plants in Takoradi, Kumasi and Tamale to enhance green economy. She is hopeful her country will collaborate with UDS in many areas such as knowledge transfer, Agriculture Technology and processing and joint publications.
Also present at the meeting were Mr. Peter Zelie, Mr. Bertalan Tordai of Hungary Helps Programme, Prof. Albert K. Quainoo, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Mr. Mohammed Hardi Shaibu, Director of Finance and Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, Head of Academic Affairs of UDS.
