4 UDS School Of Medicine Students Arrive In The US For Medical Elective Clerkship At The New York University

Four students of the UDS-School of Medicine Emmanuel Sabi Damoah, Ambrose Amoah Frimpong, Ayisha Sulemana and Mildred Gifty Obeyaa Marfo have been invited to the United States for the purposes of medical elective clerkship at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine (NYUGSOM) from 4 September to 21 October, 2023.

The clerkship is part of a larger program of collaboration and exchange between NYU Langone Health in New York and Tamale Teaching Hospital (TH) in Tamale, Ghana known as Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH Ghana). 

The purpose of the program is to foster exchange, education, capacity building and research opportunities for Ghanaian and American medical students, residents and faculty. 

The program was designed for Ghanaian medical students to gain exposure to a high-resource health system; enhance knowledge of diagnostic tests and clinical decision making by providing care in a high-resource environment; and develop skills in effective cross-cultural communication with patients and colleagues alike.

While at NYUMC, the UDS students will attend lectures, seminars and observe practices in the clinical setting in order to gain exposure to the American medical system, with rotations in the specialties of psychiatry, neurosurgery, general surgery, internal medicine. 

Clerkships will be at the public hospital at Bellevue and the private at NYU.
