About The Programme

The BSc. Agricultural and Food Economics programme equips students with knowledge and practical skills in agricultural economics, agribusiness, economic theory and applications, policy analysis, and contemporary international economics and geoeconomic issues. The programme integrates economic theory, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and data-driven decision-making to prepare graduates to address challenges related to agricultural production and consumer behaviour, agricultural and nutrition policies, agricultural transformation, agribusiness development, investment analysis and project management, precision agriculture and optimal resource use, food security, global food politics and geoeconomics. The programme combines theoretical training, practical training and application, community engagement, and research to develop graduates capable of contributing to domestic, regional, and international agricultural and economic development.

A. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications/Prerequisites

WASSCE Applicants

Applicants must possess credits (A1–C6) in three core subjects including: 

  1. English Language 
  2. Core Mathematics 
  3. Integrated Science or Social Studies 

AND

  1. Three Elective Subjects preferably from: 
  2. General Agriculture or Agricultural Science 
  3. Economics 
  4. Biology 
  5. Chemistry 
  6. Physics 
  7. Geography 
  8. Elective Mathematics
  9. Business-related subjects 

SSSCE Applicants
Applicants must possess credits (A–D) in three core subjects mentioned previously and three elective subjects relevant to Agriculture, Science, Business or General Arts. 

Diploma/HND Applicants
HND and Diploma holders in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Extension, Statistics, Economics, Business, or related disciplines may apply for placement at appropriate levels after assessment/interview.

Mature Applicants
Applicants aged 25 years and above may apply through the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination conducted by the University. Applicants must show proof of age with a birth certificate or any legitimate document proof of date of birth, which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.

Foreign Applicants
Foreign applicants may be admitted based on qualifications recognized by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) as equivalent to Ghanaian entry requirements. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must provide evidence of proficiency in the English Language.

B. Cut-off/Entry Point for the Programme

  1. WASSCE Applicants: Aggregate 36 or better 
  2. SSSCE Applicants: Aggregate 24 or better 
  3. HND/Diploma Applicants: Placement after assessment/interview 
  4. Mature Applicants: Successful pass in the Mature Entrance Examination and interview
