Message from the Dean of Faculty

As Dean, I am pleased to welcome prospective students and other website visitors including colleagues, fellow researchers, policy makers and the general public.

The pioneer members of staff of the Faculty of Applied Sciences had in the past serviced the Faculty of Agriculture Technology and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Nyankpala campus of the University through the teaching of both basic and applied science courses. As a result of the urgent need for graduates who would be essential for the developmental requirements of the least developed parts of the country, there was no other option but to start the Faculty of Applied Sciences. The graduates of this Faculty are required to blend theory with practical training in order to help drive the country’s development effort.

The Faculty relocated from Nyankpala to its permanent campus at Navrongo and admitted its first batch of students in 2002. At its present home, the Faculty has attracted additional qualified human resource to deliver quality tuition that would make her graduates more competitive on the job market and relevant to the needs of the community. Not resting on the past achievements, the Faculty is determined to be more responsive to the dynamic training needs and increasing demand by industry for applied scientists, that is, scientists who are creative and innovative enough to apply their skills to solve societal problems through the application of scientific principles. Already, the Faculty’s curriculum is an envy of many and it will continue to sustain this through collaboration with industry and other relevant stakeholders.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences continues to combine theory with practical hands-on experimental training through its Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP) and Industrial Attachment Programmes. The versatility of our graduates and their ability to adapt to diverse environments continues to win the admiration of many.

The Faculty has achieved a lot in academics and will still strive to introduce innovative training programmes for her students.

If you are a new or prospective student of this Faculty you are welcome. The Dean, lecturers and all the support staff are always there to help you succeed.

It is hoped that the information on this web page will serve as a useful guide to all current and prospective students as well as researchers, policy makers and the general public.
